I feel like I’ve lost a big connection to the father I never knew. Witnessing someone die.. hearing their last breath is so powerful.. so humbling. It brings thoughts of my own mortality. A part of me wishes I had some sort of faith in a god or higher power as I can understand completely the comfort of believing there is a place like heaven or I’ll see her and all my other loved ones again. I don’t think I will see lockdown in Edmonton, but Alberta’s case count keeps climbing. I think we won’t only because we don’t have the population or the density. I’m not going to rule anything out. I can no longer use the road which was there for the last many years as it has been torn up. the land is in the process of being morphed into a new road. I am unsure if the large house at the end of the road is still occupied. If not, the land has been sold and will be developed into new housing or commercial space. The country road is now a paved walking path. The farm land division is now marked with chainlink fences that will divide the backyards of new houses. I have a feeling next year will be the definitive end for this series. Once the houses are built, which I assume will be finished in a years time, the change will be less significant and photographing the back of the same houses year over year doesn't interest me. I have considered looking for a new subject to document. Making time is something that has changed in my life. Road trips are few and far between now. The assignment in this English class was to create a response to the poem Ex Machina by Jonathan Ball. I chose a line that resonated with me and made an analogue QR code version of that line ultimately tying a tangible, real object to the digital world to be understood which is, in my interpretation, a large theme of the poem. I was and am really proud of this one. Back in 2011, QR codes were still a bit of a quirky fad that people didn’t really understand. I thought (and still think) they were neat, and in another class wrote an essay about their creation, practical uses, and how they might be utilized in the future in either positive or negative ways.
